Not accepting donations

Hello everyone, hope all of you had a fantastic summer. As the cold weather approaches, many of you have reached out to me to offer donations as our usual volunteering season starts late in September.

You may have noticed a lack of activity on social media and a delay in communications, I sincerely apologies for this.

Unfortunately, due to a mix of personal reasons and an unplanned change of residence following the lifting of the eviction ban I find myself unable to support Revived Yarn's activities at the moment.

I am no longer based in Rathmines and while I take time to create new links in my new neighbourhood, I will pause all collections and deliveries of donations until further notice.

Please, do not post any packages to our location in Rathmines as I'm no longer based there.

There are still many ways you can contribute during this time!

Get in touch with local communities of crafters, the Dublin Knitwork and Community Centres are a good starting point to make new friends and make donations or exchanges of yarn.

Contact associations that may still accept donations of finished items: The Capuchin Centre in Smithfield, Muslim Sisters of Eire, Dublin South City Partnership, etc.

I just want to thank you for all your contributions in the past years, we've been able to support so many people since 2017!

I hope to be back very soon and to be able to contribute in some other ways while I'm on a break from the work of collection and distribution.

All the best,

Elisabetta

Donations season is open!

Starting this October, Revived Yarn is accepting donations of knitted items which will be distributed to vulnerable communities.

Due to the positive experience recorded in 2021, Revived Yarn will continue to support the Muslim Sisters of Eire and the Dublin South City Partnership, who do great work in assisting local communities in Dublin including homeless families and individuals, people affected by poverty and refugees.

What items to donate?

Knitted hats, cowls and fingerless mittens in adult/teenager size are preferred items.

Baby items are not acceptable at present unfortunately.

Crocheted items usually require some lining to ensure that the fabric is resistant to weather conditions.

You can find some guidance here Required Items

Can I donate yarn?

Yes! Yarn is distributed every year to people volunteering for Revived Yarn (this is based on availability).

If you would like to donate yarn please have a look at the requirements here.

How to donate?

You can contact Elisabetta at revivedyarn@gmail.com to arrange a drop off (usually in D6) or to meet up in Dublin city centre.

Thank you all!

Elisabetta

New Free Pattern Announced: Undivided Hat

The Undivided Hat was designed during the 2020-2021 covid-19 lockdown and was inspired by the sudden barriers and divisions introduced amongst people due to the pandemic, which are symbolised by the geometrical lines and dots in the design. Despite the significant limitations, many people have shown resilience, courage and willingness to assist the ones who on the contrary were in need of help. Through this global act of solidarity, though separated and kept afar, we remained Undivided.
This design is released as a free pattern, as a thank you to everyone who made themselves available to help during the pandemic and allowed us all to get through it.

You can download the pattern for free on Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/undivided-hat

Announcement of end of collaboration with the ICHH

Dear all,

It is with heavy heart that I have to announce that in light of the recent developments surrounding the Inner City Helping Homeless and the recommendation raised by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive to dissolve it, I have taken the difficult decision to discontinue the collaboration of Revived Yarn with the ICHH.

Any fundraising initiative to benefit  the ICHH currently managed by Revived Yarn and their partners will be discontinued as well.

The allegations made against the ICHH have affected many volunteers and partners who have put effort and trust in this charity over the years. While an investigation is still ongoing and we are all waiting for clarification, I would like to express my gratitude towards all the collaborators at ICHH who have assisted Revived Yarn and their volunteers in the past years with honesty and ethical integrity, fully invested in helping the homeless of Dublin.

In 2021 and 2022 I have decided to extend Revived Yarn’s support to the charity Muslim Sisters of Eire, and more initiatives will be launched in aid to other local communities in the future.

Since I created Revived Yarn in 2017 it has been my priority to define and achieve our goals with integrity and transparency. The work and personal engagement of Revived Yarn’s volunteers are greatly appreciated and I am aware of the wonderful impact that volunteering has on someone’s wellbeing when knowing that those efforts are able to touch the lives of the less fortunate.

I understand that this situation may constitute a worry for many of you, therefore I am available to offer any clarification I may be able to provide you with and to reply to your feedback. Feel free to send me an email at revivedyarn@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Elisabetta Melis

Goodbye to The Constant Knitter

I met Rosemary, owner of The Constant Knitter in 2016 when I had just moved to Ireland and I was starting to learn about fiber arts. I was welcomed warmly and introduced to a beautiful community! Rosemary supported my journey and was a fundamental mentor and sponsor for Revived Yarn since the beginning, being a point of reference for yarn exchanges, donations, meetups and much more!

It's sad to see The Constant Knitter leave us, but I would like to thank Rosemary for all the amazing experiences shared with me and the volunteers of Revived Yarn, wishing her all the best!

I was interviewed by Clauda Dalby of the Dublin Inquirer to express my thoughts on the closure of the shop, you can find it here On Francis Street, a Knitters’ Institution Winds Up.

Covid-19 Update, November 2020

MOVING TOWARDS THE REOPENING PHASE…

4 November 2020

Dear all,

Ireland has been doing a great job to flatten the curve and keep each other safe, altough with a great cost and the loss of many lives, and we are all asked to give a contribution to keep each other safe.

The safety of all the Volunteers is of utmost importance to Revived Yarn, and for this reason I have decided to not resume our social gatherings until it is going to be absolutely safe to do so. I miss all of you very much, but I think this is a small sacrifice that we can do to stay safe.

Our season of distribution to the homeless charities started this October and our help is much needed now to start stocking up the donations and be ready to keep people in need warm as soon as the first cold hits.

Let’s knit up some good donations in our free time, you can find some inspiration in our recommended patterns section! If you need yarn, please send me an email and I will arrange a contact free collection in Rathmines! Please note that this will be based on the current covid regulations provided by the Government.

At the moment, we are only able to accept donations of knitted items. We have an option for posting your donation to the charity Muslim Sisters of Eire, who will distribute them to the people in need in city centre. Please contact me (Elisabetta) at revivedyarn@gmail.com to get the postage address.

Revived Yarn is a welcoming community, we promote kindness, equality and inclusion.

For any queries, please contact me at revivedyarn@gmail.com.

All the best, stay safe and see you soon,

Elisabetta
